After-Christmas with Family: Hama Rikyu Onshi Teien and Ginza

After having a quick breakfast at Starbucks of Tokyo Shiodome Building (the same building with Conrad Tokyo), we went to Hama Rikyu Onshi Teien park near Conrad at 10 o'clock. It was big and beautiful; although there was few flower since it's at the end of December, we enjoyed nice walking in the park.

Then we went back to Conrad and had drinks at the bar in front of the front desk. And it's time to check out - 12PM.

We walked to Ginza and had a Japanese lunch; my parents-in-law went to watch a movie and we walked back to Tokyo station. It's a really nice Christmas holidays!

A big housecleaning and Meshi-yacchan

I and my wife did a big housecleaning while my parents-in-law took care of our baby girl. I cleaned up windows and sofa; my wife vacuum the floor, cleaned the floor of the entrance and kitchen. We're going to ask private cleaners to clean kitchen, bathroom, and lavatory, probably in January since it's cheaper than December.

Our cleanup started at 9AM and finished 3:30PM. Then my wife went to her parents' home while I took a shower. Then I drove my car to my parents-in-law's home to pick up my wife and our baby girl. Finally our parents-in-law joined us and went to Meshi-yacchan.

When we arrived at the restaurant, a very famous entrepreneur/businessman, HM, and his family were there! According to the restaurant's staff, he often comes to the restaurant. Actually, I wore Harvard University's sweatshirt but I could not put off it since I was just a wannabe but he actually graduated Harvard Business School:-(

I ordered Kaisen-don of three kinds of raw fishes and squid:
maguro - tuna
katsuo - bonito
shirasu - white bait
ika - squid

Autumn Leaves in Kita Kamakura and Kamakura

While my wife attended her friend's wedding ceremony, I went for a walk with our baby girl with a baby carrier. we passed nearby JR Ofuna station, JR Kita Kamakura station, Engakuji temple (Japanese only), Kenchoji temple (Japanese only), and finally Tsurugaoka Hachimangu shrine (Japanese only). There were a lot of people enjoying beautiful autumn leaves.

I bought warabi-mochi(large, 1,050 JPY including sales tax) at Kosuzu as a souvenir and took a train at JR Kamakura station. It's about a one-hour walk.

Finally we stopped by my parents-in-law's home and wait for my wife coming back there. It's a great day and I think our daughter enjoyed being with me:-)

Hot spring bath at Oiso Prince Hotel & Eboshi in Chigasaki

Since my wife has always been taking care of our baby girl, I recommended her to relax in a hot spring bath alone while I am watching our daughter. Oiso Prince Hotel has a small but clean hot spring bath and it's a convenient place to drive my car. So we went to there. We didn't know it, but the highway toll happened to be free due to the government's social experiment. It seems my wife enjoyed her short-term freedom.

I arrived at the parking around 4:55AM and enjoyed surfing from 5:10AM to 5:40AM. Forecasted temperature was 19 centigrade at 6 o'clock. Water was warm (23.4 centigrade).

Waves were too small to ride even for my board with the length of 7'8". So I just gave up surfing today and went back to home.

Since I was not satisfied with it at all, I run to Yuigahama; I haven't been running recently, so I could not run all the way to there..

Reasons why I like Yuigahama for surfing

  1. Shoaling beach and steady waves
    • I am not an expert surfer; it's important for me to be able to enjoy the slow and relaxing atmosphere. Waves in Yuigahama is great; it might be small, but it's constantly in good condition.
  2. My way home
    • I drive along Wakamiya-oodori to the north and turn to the left in front of the Hachimanguu shrine. I really like the scenery.
  3. Convenient parking lot near the beach.
    • It's just a 1 min walk from the beach; also, if I use it from 4:58AM to 6:58AM. It costs just 200 JPY!

I wish I could use a coin locker, but that's okay.

I tried Yuigahama for the first time! Yuigahama is a shoaling beach like Kugenuma, so even a beginner can enjoy surfing. In addition, this beach is sorrounded by a bay, so even though waves were relatively high today, it was not that high compared to Kugenuma. Furtheremore, I found a very convenient parking near here, so Yuigahama became my favorite beach for surfing.

I arrived at the beach around 5:30AM and rode waves from 5:40AM to 7:25AM. Forecasted temperature was 24 centigrade at 6 o'clock. Water was warm.

We also met Mr. H, who is running his own company. He is really nice guy and great collector of miniature cars. His company is doing the business of miniature cars like police cars.

(*) Technically we joined the company at the same year and worked in different departments.

We had a nice lunch at the brewery below and then move to a bar with wood deck. There was a nice, gentle breeze blowing. Finally my ex-coworker took a bullet train to Nagoya. We promised to get together sometime soon.

AXN Double Japan Premiere at Roppongi Hills - FLASHFORWARD and LOST

My ex-colleague did not watch at LOST, but he said he will start watching it after the premiere.

I am one of the around 300 winners; One winner gets one ticket for two persons, and capacity of the theater is 644. Chris Peppler, MC of the premiere, told us that there were around 28,000 applications.

Ooicho, huge gingko (maidenhair tree) at Hachimangu shrine

I heard a sad news about the symbol of Kamakura, Hachimangu shrine. We have a huge gingko (maidenhair tree) there, near the stairway to the main shrine. It is said that it's around 1,000 years old. I do really hope that the root is okay and it grows again.

I am going to visit there with my daughter, wife, parents, and parents-in-law this weekend. I wouldn't say good-bye since I believe that its bud will come out.
